Simquat is a technology studio that builds digital tools.
We are inspired by Kigumi, the art of wood joinery. In Kigumi, removing material from a piece of wood is what makes the strongest connection with another. In software, we consider what we take away to be just as important as what we add. Loading a product with too many features dims its true purpose. Removing the unnecessary brings the essential into focus.
We aren't against new technologies, but we prefer the strictly necessary. Heavy frameworks, external dependencies, and AI-generated code might speed up the initial build, but they soon lead to fragile structures, burdened by their own weight. Instead, we rely on intentional design and handcrafted code. We build software that is robust, easy to maintain, and built to last.
AL0 is a smartphone environment for Android.
Built to remove all digital noise – notifications, popups, social media, blobs of colors and sounds – the interface is based on a small number of utilitarian text-first black and white UI elements, combined to implement the essential features of a mobile phone: telephone, calendar, clock, camera, torch, calculator.

The software was rebuilt from scratch to implement a precise, performant rule-checking engine paired with an intuitive user interface. Users can write tests and view results in real-time, directly on the 3D model. The backend was moved from a slow, bug-prone microservices architecture to a faster, reliable monolith on a modest machine.
